Public Transport: Antalya & Alanya
A practical guide to getting around Antalya province affordably and conveniently using public transport.
Best Choice: Contactless Card
The easiest way to pay is with your standard contactless bank card. It works on the Antalya tram and on city and regional buses. Note that your bank may charge a small foreign transaction fee.
Alternative: Antalyakart
You can also purchase a dedicated transport card, the Antalyakart, from machines at major stops and kiosks. This can be a cheaper option if you plan to travel extensively.
Antalya Tram (Antray)
The Fastest Way from the Airport
Antalya's modern tram line is the best way to travel from Antalya Airport (Havalimanı) directly to the main bus station (Otogar). From the Otogar, you can catch connecting buses to Alanya, Kemer, Side, and other resorts.
You can pay easily by tapping your contactless bank card at the turnstile. Click the map to view a larger version.
How to Get Around in the Region
City Buses (Antalya & Alanya)
Both cities are covered by a dense network of public buses. Payment is with a contactless card or Antalyakart. Some key routes for tourists include:
- Antalya - Bus 600: Connects the airport and the main bus station (Otogar) via the city center.
- Antalya - Buses KL08, LC07: Popular routes connecting Konyaaltı Beach, the city center, and Lara Beach.
- Alanya - Buses 1 & 101: Run along the main coastal road, covering most hotels and beaches.
- Alanya - Bus 4: Takes you directly up to the entrance of Alanya Castle (Kale).
Dolmuş (Minibus)
The dolmuş is a shared minibus that operates on a fixed route but without fixed stops. It's a very common and flexible way to travel short to medium distances.
- How to use: Simply wave at an approaching dolmuş from the roadside. To get off, shout "İnecek var!" (in-eh-jek var), which means "Someone wants to get off!".
- Payment: Pay the driver directly in cash (Turkish Lira). Fares are usually posted inside the vehicle.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing
Official taxis are yellow and are required to use a meter (taksimetre). Always ensure the meter is turned on at the start of your journey.
- BiTaksi: This is the most popular local taxi-hailing app, similar to Uber. It allows you to call a registered taxi, see the estimated fare, and pay by card.
- Uber: Uber operates in Turkey but usually just calls a regular yellow taxi.
- Tip: It's helpful to have your destination written down or shown on a map to avoid miscommunication.
Alanya Teleferik (Cable Car)
For a scenic ride, the Alanya Teleferik takes you from a station near Kleopatra Beach directly to the top of the castle hill. It offers stunning views of the coastline. You must buy a separate ticket for the cable car at the station.
