The Nazar Boncuğu, known simply as the "evil eye" symbol, is one of the most common talismans in Turkey and throughout the Mediterranean region. Its purpose is not decoration, but protection.
What is the "Evil Eye"?
According to the belief, the "evil eye" (nazar) is negative energy generated from envy or excessive admiration. If someone looks at you or your property with jealousy, it can bring bad luck. The blue eye is designed to "absorb" this negative energy and protect you.
Why Does It Break?
If a Nazar Boncuğu breaks or cracks, it is believed to have fulfilled its purpose – it has absorbed so much negative energy that it shattered. A broken amulet is discarded and replaced with a new one. It's a sign that you have been successfully protected!
